One Hope Tulsa's GetAHEAD Program
We hope you were able to take a few minutes to watch the video, to see what the students and teachers at getAHEAD are thankful for, and to meet some of the incredible kids who make getAHEAD the special place that it is.
getAHEAD has been serving families in Tulsa since 2006 through summer and after school tutoring programs that focus on impacting kids through relationships. We are so thankful for the hundreds of kids who have come through this program, and we're so thankful for the ways those relationships still shape our lives and theirs to this day, even as some of those kids from the earliest years of getAHEAD are now adults with jobs and families of their own.
As the program has grown, our space has not, which means that getAHEAD has operated with a waitlist for the past few years. We are so thankful that we have been given the opportunity to move into the Rose Bowl, an historic bowling alley located not far from our current location. This facility offers much more space, along with a basketball court and indoor soccer field, but it's not quite ready for us to move in! We need to build separate classrooms for each class, along with paying for an in-depth mold treatment so it is safe for children to regularly be in there.
We would love to expand our ability to build relationships with students, to help them succeed in school, to help them improve as readers, to help them develop as people through athletics and art, and to teach them the Word of God. We are grateful that we have been able to offer getAHEAD for free to families in our community, but it costs us $75 per month for each student to be a part. If we can find people to cover those costs, it will allow us to complete the necessary renovations and enable us to add more students.
How You Can Help:
- Student Sponsorship: $4.70 a day, $75 a month, or $750 a year (due to school breaks), will pay for one student's participation in getAHEAD. - Personal Campaign: It's easy to set up your own personalized webpage to raise funds for getAHEAD. Even if you can't give $75 yourself, you can mobilize your family and friends so you can sponsor a student together. Just click "Start a Fundraiser" on the right side of the page.
- Workdays: For those local to Tulsa, there are three scheduled workdays to help with the construction and the clean-up needed. Contact Tyler Brown ([email protected]) if you are able to help.
- Construction Donation: In addition to the regular support we need to run getAHEAD, we are faced with imminent construction costs. If you'd like your donation to go to mold clean-up, architect fees, building supplies, and the like, please leave a note with your one time donation.
As we enter this season of thankfulness, we are already anticipating the many ways we will be giving thanks for YOU and for your support of the work of getAHEAD!
